Capable of enduring work in extreme temperatures

VIA Technologies, a company focused on providing customers with power-efficient x86 processor platforms, has just announced the launch of a new motherboard designed to provide hardware support for devices destined to work in environments with extreme temperatures. The company's new VIA EPIA N700-10EW comes built on a Nano-ITX PCB and combines one of the company's power-efficient Eden ULV processors with one of the chip maker's latest media system processors, the VX800.

“By expanding our range of EPIA products to include extended temperature products, VIA is addressing the broader needs of our extensive customer base,” said Daniel Wu, vice president of VIA Embedded, VIA Technologies, Inc. “Extreme thermal competency usually comes at a premium, the VIA EPIA N700-10EW will help to significantly lower that barrier.”

According to the Taiwanese chip maker, the new board has been designed to deliver stability at temperatures ranging from -20 degrees Celsius to 70 degrees Celsius. The board sports a fanless design and is equipped with a 1GHz VIA Eden ULV processor and a VIA VX800 media system processor. In addition, for increased efficiency, the EPIA N700-10EW has been built using completely solid state capacitors.

The board's additional specifications include support for up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, two SATA connectors, USB 2.0, COM and PCIe-based Gigabit Ethernet LAN, available through the on-board I/O. The chip maker has also equipped the board with a Type I Compact Flash port, a Mini-PCI slot, an IDE port and additional COM, USB and PS/2 support through pin-headers. With the help of the board's integrated VX800 media system processors, the VIA EPIA N700-10EW can provide support for DirectX 9 graphics, and hardware accelerated video playback support for MPEG-2, MPEG-4, WMV9 and VC1 video formats.

Unfortunately, the company hasn't unveiled any details regarding pricing and availability.
