VIA Technologies announced that it will actively participate in the Embedded Systems Conference that takes place in Boston where the company plans to showcase it latest innovations like very low power consuming x86 compatible chips and mainboards which are especially designed and manufactured for use in various embedded systems.

One of the most important VIA products that will be presented at the Boston conference is the new ultra low power x86 compatible central processing unit named Eden that runs at 500MHz while requiring only a maximum of one watt of power to operate with an average energy consumption of 100mW. This new VIA processor will make a fine addition to the embedded industry as it offers more processing power while drastically reducing the energy needed to function.

Because of their low power and low heat build up features, all products from the Eden line of processors made by VIA Technologies are well suited for use in ultra compact and low power systems, and because they are also passive cooled they will provide a silent computing environment as well.

Another highlight of the line of VIA products is the Vista ready and certified CN896 digital media IGP chipset which comes with DirectX 9 hardware support as well as MPEG-2 decoding capabilities thanks to its integrated Chrome9 HC video processing unit. The much acclaimed VIA line of motherboards from the EPIA family will be presented too.

Among the EPIA mainboards there will be the PX Pico-ITX product which is now the smallest x86 compatible hardware platform that is powered by a fast 1GHz C7 processing unit as well as the bigger NX and NR series of motherboards that are coming together with the C7 processors while packing a lot of performance into their small form factor.

The most powerful VIAmade mainboard, the EPIA SN Mini-ITX, is based on the VIA CN896 digital media IGP chipset and it comes with an integrated PCI Express slot, four Serial ATA II and Gigabit Ethernet ports as well as the fastest available 1.8GHz VIA C7 processor.

''With such a strong array of technologically advanced products, it's not hard to see why VIA is at the leading edge, delivering the performance and connectivity of x86 deeper into the embedded space,'' said Alp Sezen, Director of Sales, VIA Embedded Platform Solutions Division, VIA Technologies, Inc. ''VIA's focus on power efficiency, miniaturization and integration across the whole platform over the past few years is now paying dividends, with our technologies enabling a whole new spectrum of embedded systems.''
