VIA Technologies, Inc., a leading developer and provider of power efficient x86 processor platforms, announced today that its VIA Nano processor and its VIA VX800 unified digital media IGP chipset received an Excellent Product Award at WinHEC 2008 in Taipei this week.

The award was presented by Taiwan's Vice President, Vincent Siew, and emphasizes the chip maker's commitment to develop products that reduce energy consumption along with the use of hazardous manufacturing materials. The VIA Nano processor platform is also targeted at facilitating ease of recycling.

“Very early on, VIA opted to take an approach to product design that factored in what impact its products and processes have on the environment,” said Epan Wu, Director of CPU Product Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. “While we are delighted to receive this award for our VIA Nano processor platform, even more satisfying is noting the IT industry's growing awareness of environmental issues and its increasingly pro-active approach.”

VIA also announced that it would showcase innovative and power efficient products based on its VIA Nano processor platform at its annual Lunch@Piero's media event, which will be held on the 8th and 9th of January at Piero's Restaurant, opposite the Las Vegas Convention Center, during CES 2009.

VIA Nano processors have been developed in order to revitalize traditional desktop and notebook PC markets through their capability to deliver optimized performance for highly demanding computing, entertainment and connectivity applications. The power efficiency of the processors is unmatched, as they feature a 100mW (0.1W) TDP when idle, being considered the perfect choice for any power efficient green and silent PC, thin and light notebook or mini-note around the world.

More information on the company's Nano processor family is available on VIA's web site. Further details on the media event the company will hold during CES 2009 can be found here.
