Updating the bios won't solve the problem

Second generation SATA hard-drives seem to be causing problems to the VIA chipsets, which have some compatibility issues with the storage solutions.

It seems that the chipset models VIA VT8237, VT8237R, VT6420 and VT6421L found on many motherboards, have some problems with Serial-ATA II drives, which will be available in a few months from now.

The Inquirer warns that all the VIA chipsets which offer support for Serial ATA have issues with the Serial ATA II.

The conflict was discovered when the first models of Serial ATA 3 Gb/s hard disks appeared; all the chipsets installed on motherboards that offer S-ATA II support displayed a BIOS error message which announced the failure to initiate a hardware component.

For now, the problem cannot be solved with a BIOS update, and the owners of such motherboards will have to buy other solutions or to give for now on their S-ATA II drives.
