VIA has just announced the introduction of the VB8004 mainboard which pairs together the company's Nano E-series CPUs with the VX900 media system processor and can also be fitted with an add-on graphics module.

The VIA VB8004 is available in two configurations, one sporting a 1.2GHz Nano processor while the other is equipped with a 1.6GHz chip, but both of these are otherwise identical.

According to VIA, the board can be fitted with as much as 4GB of DDR3 system memory (via a single SO-DIMM socket), two SATA storage devices, and also includes an expansion I/O connector for one 4-lane PCIe, one 1-lane PCIe and one USB.

On the rear I/O panel, users will find two USB 2.0 ports, a pair of PS/2 ports, a serial port, a Gigabit LAN connector as well as DVI and HDMI video outputs.

Customers who need to use more than two display can opt for the VIA S3 5400E dedicated graphics module which adds a second set of HDMI and DVI ports.

The VIA daughter card features advanced multimedia capabilities and its ChromotionHD 2.1 video engine can provide hardware acceleration for a wide series of HD video standards, including Blu-ray, H.264 and VC-1.

The VIA VB8004 mini-ITX board accepts DC power input, also includes a single channel 24-bit LVDS panel connector, and packs four on-board USB 2.0 pin-headers.

"The VIA VB8004 has been developed from the ground up to provide a scalable solution for our digital signage customers," said Epan Wu, Head of the VIA Embedded Platform Division, VIA Technologies, Inc.

“It provides them with a cost-effective and flexible path for upgrading their systems to meet ever changing market requirements,” concluded the company's rep.

The mainboard has already been listed on VIA's website and is available for ordering, but its price hasn't been communicated.
