Aside from its new VAIO X series, Sony is also planning to expand the VAIO line of laptops with yet another model, the CW, which the company is expected to ship with the much-anticipated Windows 7 operating system. The VAIO CW has been built as a more performance-capable laptop, boasting a 14-inch design and providing end-users with a couple of configuration options, including a number of color themes. There aren't many details to go on for the time being, but the laptop could become official before the end of this month, round-about the time Windows 7 gets its official launch.

The VAIO CW series will provide consumers with a 14-inch laptop, boasting a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and being powered by a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 processor. In addition, the laptop can be configured with up to 8GB of RAM and a maximum storage capacity of 500GB, available on the traditional hard drive. Users will also be offered a choice for NVIDIA's GeForce GT 230M 512MB or GT 210M 256MB dedicated graphics solution.

As may expect from a VAIO laptop, the CW series will also provide you with a choice for the color of the chassis, but available options are yet to be unveiled. In addition, the machine also sports an ExpressCard/34 slot, a Motion Eye webcam, a DVD or Blu-ray optical drive, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, optional Bluetooth and an HDMI output, which you'll likely make good use of, considering the HD capabilities of the two NVIDIA discrete graphics solutions.

As stated above, the new laptop will ship with Microsoft's much-anticipated Windows 7 operating system, which is slated to debut on October 22. Although no details are available on the release date of the VAIO CW series, the new system is expected to become available for about US$800.
