Tameka Foster flies to Brazil to have work done

Last night at the Grammys, Rihanna and Chris Brown were not the only artists not to be able to attend the festivities and perform as announced. Usher was also in no position to walk the red carpet, as he had to fly to Brazil to be with his wife Tameka, who had just suffered complications during plastic surgery, Access Hollywood is reporting.

Apparently, Tameka had traveled to Brazil to have some work done, although the report does not say the kind of intervention that the 37-year-old former stylist wanted. Speculation has it that she might have gone all the way to Brazil for a tummy tuck. What is known at this point, though, is that something went really bad during surgery, which led to “serious injuries” and complications. Once Usher got word of the condition of his wife, he was on the first plane to Brazil, canceling his appearances at Clive Davis’ Annual Pre-Grammy Party and the Grammy Awards themselves.

Moreover, from what Access Hollywood is saying, it seems that Tameka’s condition is much more complicated than what Davis tried to make it look like, him being the one who confirmed it for the media. Neurosurgeon Dr. Gabriel Hunt of LA’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has also been flown to South America to consult on her case, the aforementioned source also says.

Usher and Tameka married in August 2007, after a lengthy relationship that did not fail to capture the attention of the press. The two have two children together, Naveid Ely Raymond (born in December) and Usher Raymond V, while Tameka also has three other sons from a previous relationship.

While plastic surgery is common in celebrity world by now, cases when things go bad are not that rare as one might want them. Just last year, Kanye West’s mother passed away due to complications following plastic surgery, in what was a case that shocked the entire world. Luckily, Tameka’s situation is not that bad, from what Clive Davis told people. “I talked to [Usher’s] mom. My thoughts are with them, whatever they’re facing.” the music mogul explained.
