With Mother’s Day just around the corner, scammers and cybercriminals are busy launching all sorts of malicious online campaigns.

Experts from Scambook warn that there are three main scams doing the rounds these days: bogus online stores, e-card phishing, and fraudulent flower discounts and brunch coupons.

Right before every major holiday, crooks set up bogus online stores in an effort to trick users into buying various items at low prices.

Experts advise consumers to purchase gifts only from trusted retailers since offers that sound too good to be true are usually scams.

Spam messages that appear to contain e-cards are also highly dangerous because cybercriminals often use them to distribute malware. Once such a piece of malware infects a computer, it can give its master complete control of the victim’s device.

Sites offering coupons and flower discounts can also hide malware, which is why – as in the case of online stores – users should only visit ones they trust.

Bitdefender has also spotted several Mother’s Day-themed scams. Check them out so you know what to look out for.
