Apple has rolled out two more updates, one for its Airport-enabled Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) users, while the other is aimed at the Mac Pro (early 2008). Owners of the latter can now update to firmware version 1.3.

As usual, Apple falls short of specifying what it is the updates actually do, in plain English. Nevertheless, the Cupertino-based company noted a few specifications for each update: AirPort Extreme Update 2008-001 for Tiger "is recommended for all Intel-based Macintosh computers running Tiger OS and improves the reliability of AirPort connections," the company states.

As for the Mac Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.3, it is said to resolve several stability issues of early Mac Pro computers. It also updates the BootROM to version MP31.006C.B05.

Mac Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.3: "This update fixes several issues to improve the stability of Mac Pro (Early 2008) computers. After the firmware is successfully applied to your computer, your BootROM Version will be: MP31.006C.B05," Apple informs Mac Pro users. "You can confirm the version of the Boot ROM installed on your computer using System Profiler."

Concerning the Mac Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.3 again, users should not unplug, shutdown, or restart their computer while the update is taking place, as interrupting a firmware update can render the machine "unusable," the company states.

If you are unsure whether your computer needs a particular update, simply download and open the update installer. The installer will alert you if the firmware update is already installed or not needed.

Also, as a side note, if you are updating a portable Mac, make sure that your AC adapter is plugged in. The Firmware Updater application will not run unless the computer is connected to AC power.
