Developers focusing on resource-constrained devices now have a fresh build of the next generation of the .NET Micro Framework 4.0 available for download. At the start of this week, the Redmond company started offering testers and early adopters an update version of the Beta development milestone of .NET Micro Framework 4.0. According to the software giant, the refresh introduced was necessary in order to ensure that some issues affecting the initial Beta release of the development and execution environment were tackled.

Still, Microsoft chose not to resolve the issues identified with the previous Beta build of .NET Micro Framework 4.0 concomitantly with the next major development milestone release of the solution. The software giant revealed it was feedback from customers currently test driving .NET Micro Framework 4.0 Beta that acted as a catalyst for the evolution of the current build, while keeping the release in Beta stage.

“In this update we fix some issues with debugging over TCP/IP, we polished MDK3.80a support and we moved the entire DPWS stack over the XML native parser. We also removed a dependency from ATL in the runtime, which enables using Visual Studio Express with the Porting Kit to rebuild the CLR, the emulator, and the tools. As always we are looking forward to your feedback,” noted a member of the .NET Micro Framework team.

Microsoft provided developers with the first Beta for .NET Micro Framework 4.0 Beta in the first half of September 2009. As was the case with the previous release, the updated .NET Micro Framework 4.0 Beta is available exclusively through Microsoft Connect. Customers will need a Windows Live ID in order to access the .NET Micro Framework 4.0 Beta refresh. “Version 4.0 is currently out in pre-release form to some of our invited partners. We are currently soliciting feedback from those partners on the features included in the release and any issue that they encounter with the release,” the Redmond company informs on Connect.
