If you were wondering about the latest developments in the HP Chromebook 11 overheating chargers stories, we are here to give you the follow-up.

Everything started on November 13, when HP and Google withdrew all HP Chromebook 11 products found on retail shelves at BestBuy. On top of that, the notebook’s trace was lost in the online environment as well, as the device was nowhere to be found on the HP or Google official layers.

The explanation soon surfaced, apparently a number of people complained about the notebook’s overheating chargers, so the products were pulled back from sale quickly, in what seemed an extreme measure.

Not so long ago, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission revealed the real extent of the problem. Apparently HP and Google received nine reports of chargers over and melting during use.

However, HP is attempting to fix the issue and is currently shipping out replacement chargers to affected customers.

We weren’t sure if the two companies will continue to sell the Chromebook 11 after so much woe, but now it has been made clear that they will. HP and Google are already working on new version of the Chromebook, which will sell with an improved charger.

A testimony to that is that the folks over at 9to5Google have already received an updated HP Chromebook that comes bundled with a new power cord reminiscent of the Chromebook Pixel’s power supply with a microUSB tip.

The new charger is made by LITEON in China and is cable of sending 5.2V of power to the Chromebook at 3.0A. Hopefully, users won’t experience any problems with this upgraded model.

At this point, we have no idea of when we’re going to see the updated Chromebook arrive on retail shelves and the Google Play store says the model is “Coming Soon.”
