Canon didn't keep its place as the number one Japanese company in the U.S. to have been awarded the most number of patents last year for nothing, and every week reveals new Canon patents that will probably reach mass production in a year or two.

According to CanonRumors, an unknown source has stated that the Nippon manufacturer is planning to introduce a global shutter system to a future digital SLR camera capable of capturing 2.5k video footage.

Canon has been constantly working on improving its DSLR video capabilities, and it wouldn't come as a surprise if it got implemented in future camera models. Having in mind that this comes from a new source, you'd better take this with a grain of salt until more info becomes available.

Earlier today, we presented a new Canon patent that aims to bring a curved diaphragm to future lenses, allowing the company to save a little bit of space inside the lens and create more compact optics.
