Untangle, Inc., through Dirk Morris, announced yesterday, November 16th, a new release of its popular gateway solution. The Untangle Gateway 8.0 Linux-based operating system provides a large collection of the best open-source applications, designed to improve the stability and security of servers.

The new Untangle Gateway 8.0 release brings a new Bandwidth Control application and lots of platform enhancements. Among these, we can mention:

· Linux kernel 2.6.26-2 (with additional features for Bandwidth Control and QoS); · Added the ability to export and import settings and rules in tables; · Added a new "Session Viewer" option to view the sessions that are currently scanned; · Sessions are now shown as stat, at top of rack; · DNS is bypassed by default now; · Added a new ExtJS toolkit for UI; · New QoS implementation for better usability and more functionality; · QoS has now eight priorities, with modifiable behavior for each one; · Added outbound and inbound limiting for QoS; · Added a new session viewer to see session priorities in QoS; · Added Bandwidth Control app for traffic and bandwidth shaping; · Added Bandwidth Monitor app to view sessions in real-time; · The Bandwidth Control app reports for viewing bandwidth usage on the network; · The Bandwidth Control app rules allow for traffic prioritization; · Penalty Box app can now handle misbehaved users; · Bandwidth Control quotas allow for allocation of daily/hourly/weekly bandwidth quotas; · The eSoft Web Filter now uses SNI in order to filter HTTPS traffic by hostname (it reverts to old behavior if no SNI is found); · Added the ability to manually start report generation task in Reports; · The maximum retention time was increased in Reports; · Top CSVs incorporate now all the data (not just top 9); · Various bugfixes for Reports; · Added the ability to view current logged in users in Captive Portal; · Added the ability to force log out the logged in users in Captive Portal; · Fixed a bug for the enable checkbox not working properly issue in Captive Portal; · Directory Connector will no longer count "captive portal user" as a valid user; · Added a "Groups" column to the Status page table of Directory Connector; · OpenVPN wizard was improved; · OpenVPN pushes search domain to connecting clients; · OpenVPN no longer enables the 443 port automatically; · OpenVPN client was updated to version 2.1.3 (supports Windows 7 and Vista); · WAN Balancer sessions created during startup are now handled; · Some UDP fixes.
