The developers promise a "groundbreaking" shooter

If Epic ever stops developing games (even though nobody would wish something like that happened), they will definitely still be able to keep the company running just by licensing their great Unreal Engine 3. As further proof that this statement is correct, we have just received the news that Ignition Entertainment licensed Epic's engine to create a "groundbreaking FPS" game which, at the moment, is unnamed and not detailed. But we know that all the products which benefit from the use of the graphical engine from Epic will at least look great. Thus, Ignition can enjoy a good start anyway.

All we have found out about this new title is that it's under development at Ignition's Florida studio, it is a brand new, original IP (thank God for that!) and it is scheduled for a release during late 2009. This further means that, for at least a couple of months, we won't be hearing too much about it.

"Epic's Unreal Engine 3 is an extremely versatile engine," said Jeremy Stieglitz, Game Director and Lead Designer, Ignition Florida. "So when deciding on technology for Ignition Florida's first next-generation video game, there was no questioning that Unreal Engine 3 is the way to go." Mark Rein, Epic's vice president added, "Ignition Florida is pushing Unreal Engine 3 in a very exciting direction, especially in terms of environmental capabilities. These guys have the chops to create some remarkable games, and we have complete faith in their technical and creative abilities".

We truly hope that Mr. Rein is right, as gamers definitely need an awesome brand new IP and an Unreal Engine 3-created one could be the answer. However, there is a lot of time until "late 2009" and many things can still happen. We hope for the best and wish Ignition good luck with its project.
