Rapper 50 Cent underwent a shocking physical transformation for role in “Things Fall Apart”

A while back, rapper 50 Cent went away from the spotlight for a while and, when he emerged, he was but a shadow of his former self. He was shooting for a film called “Things Fall Apart” and, now, the first unofficial trailer for it is out.

The film is directed by Mario Van Peebles on a script that has Curtis Jackson (50 Cent) as co-writer. Both Fiddy and Mario appear in it, opposite Ray Liotta.

The film is about a professional football player who is diagnosed with cancer and starts treatment while trying to keep his condition hidden from the media, the fans and industry players with interest in him.

What’s most remarkable about it, so far, at least, is the fact that Fiddy, known for his always impeccable and ripped physical condition, lost about 54 pounds for the role.

As the video below will show, the difference between the before and after footage is startling, to say the least.

Reaction to the trailer has been mixed, with some voices online blaming the poor quality of it for the impression that the movie is not good, while others, fewer, believe the film has nothing to stand out in the crowd by Fiddy’s amazing feat of losing so much weight.

Yet, there are reports that suggest the film has the potential to become a hit.

“50’s film had its world premiere over the weekend at the Miami International Film Festival, where a reporter for the Examiner claimed ‘the crowd loved his movie’,” PopEater writes.

Even if critics pan it, people will probably still rush in to see it out of curiosity.

“In the flick, written by 50 and loosely based on the life of his childhood best friend, the rapper-turned-actor goes from a dread-locked NFL hopeful to an emaciated cancer victim,” PopEater further says of the plot.

“Already pegged the ‘most critically acclaimed role of 50’s career,’ the film also stars Ray Liotta and is directed by Mario Van Peebles,” says the e-zine.

Below is the unofficial trailer / first look at 50’s “Things Fall Apart.” Judge for yourself.
