Think of the “Battlestar Galactica” movie as a reboot. Universal plans on turning the popular sci-fi series into a big screen production but it's doing it on its own terms, and those terms are a complete overhaul of the story and characters.

Variety claims that the movie is going to be made and that Jack Paglen, the man who wrote the “Transcendence” script, has already signed on to pen the new script. For those of you who follow the behind-the-scenes of Hollywood, Paglen is also taped to write the sequel to Ridley Scott's “Prometheus.”

The good news for fans of the original series is that the original creator of the show, Glen Larson, has been signed on as producer.

So far, there have been three separate “Battlestar Galactica” series, the last one popping up on the Sci Fi Channel back in 2003.

Rumors about a big screen production have been swirling around Hollywood and the Internet since 2009, but this is the first time that real steps are being taken to turn it into a movie. At the time, director Bryan Singer was attached to the project that was going to be a feature film set in the universe of the TV series.
