Call of Duty: Black Ops, the first person shooter sensation from developer Treyarch and publisher Activision Blizzard, has taken the number one position in the video games chart in time for Christmas, cementing its claim as the best video game launch of this year.

Call of Duty: Black Ops has been confirmed as having a better launch day in both the United States and in the United Kingdom than its predecessor Modern Warfare 2 and with the big launches of the year done, it might keep its position for some time, at least until Dead Space 2 arrives in late January.

FIFA 11, the football simulation title from EA Sports, has managed to keep its second spot in the chart, just as the Premier League reaches the winter fever period, even though massive snowfall has chilled the excitement somewhat.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, the racing simulator developed by Criterion and published by Electronic Arts, has seen the biggest jump of the week, going from seventh to the last position of the podium.

Just Dance 2, the casual dancing party title from Ubisoft, has also seen an upward trend, going from sixth to fourth.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the first game in its series to add multiplayer, has dropped one place to come to fifth in time for Christmas while Gran Turismo 5, the racing simulator from Polyphony Digital and publisher Sony, exclusive to the PlayStation 3, also went down one place into sixth.

Donkey Kong Country Returns from Nintendo is in seventh place while Medal of Honor, the first person shooter from Danger Close, DICE and Electronic Arts is fighting back to get into the top ten to come in at eight from 13.

Wii Fit Plus has gained one place to reach number nine while the top ten is closed down by Professor Layton and the Lost Future from Nintendo.
