Amateur photographer Kyle McBurnie must be darn proud of having snapped this photo of a seal hanging about a forest of kelp.
Especially seeing how the picture was “crowned” underwater photo of the year by a panel of judges at a competition organized by the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science.
This seal is said to have been caught on camera in the waters off San Diego's coastline.
Kyle McBurnie recollects that, when coming face to face with the seal, the latter looked utterly serene and graceful.
I dare say this picture proves that, when in the water, seals are not the clumsy animals we tend to think they are after watching them struggle to move their bodies on land.
Another picture that has won an award at this photo competition shows a male fish carrying its eggs inside its mouth. Check it out here.
