The stereolithography-based 3D printer is almost completely funded after just a day

Just a few days ago, I brought you news about the most amazing DLP 3D printer ever, which creates things by bombarding resin with light. Called Uncia, the 3D printer costs a stupefying $299 / €299 instead of ten times that amount (or more) as DLP/SLA printers usually do.

In that article, we said that QSQM Technology Corporation created the Uncia based on another printer that was crowd-funded back in 2012.

This is still true, but it seems that the new product needs to go through a session of crowd-funding as well (Indiegogo). The Chinese Corporation may have been bought by Nanjing F.M. recently (for $1 million / €745K), but it seems that prospective buyers still need to help get the new project off the ground.

Not that it's even likely for the campaign to fail. With a funding goal of $10,000 / €7,450, it will be easy, especially since the goal is more than half-way met after just a day.

The minimum pledge is, as we said, $299 / €299. Admittedly, it will only be that cheap for the first 30 backers, and it doesn't include the DLP projector. The one that does is still really cheap though, at $599 / €599.

All in all, they are amazing prices, unbelievable even. SLP printing has a much higher detail level than FDM (where plastic is layered via a nozzle by a filament extruder). Once the Indiegogo campaign is complete, some 3D printers will be donated to schools.

Here are the printer's specs: size of 350 x 270 x 700 mm / 13.77 x 10.62 x 27.55 inches, build volume of 102 x 77 x 170 mm / 4.01 x 3.03 x 6.69 inches, layer resolution of 100 microns, 1.5 seconds curing speed per layer, weight of 18.5 kg / 40.78 pounds (20 kg / 44 pounds with projector). Windows operating system is supported.
