Naughty Dog isn't interested in the new handheld console right now

Naughty Dog, the studio behind massively successful franchises like Uncharted or Jak and Daxter, has released a statement through which it denies the fact that it’s working on games for the recently released PlayStation Vita.

Sony has been hyping up its PS Vita lately, as well as the games that are going to appear for it. Chief among them is the impressive Uncharted: Golden Abyss that, unlike previous games from the series, isn’t coming from Naughty Dog, as it’s made by Sony Bend.

Sony’s Guy Longsworth, the senior vice president of PlayStation brand marketing, recently went on the record as saying that Naughty Dog would, in fact, make a game for the PS Vita.

Now, in order to clear things up, the studio’s community manager, Arne Meyer, explained on the NeoGAF forums that such a thing isn’t likely and that Naughty Dog has no plans to work on the Vita.

"We're not working on anything for PS Vita," Meyer said. "I won't say never, ever, but there's no plans for it right now - we've always felt that consoles play to our strengths as a studio the best."

Meyer elaborated on his words, saying that Naughty Dog’s teams liked it when they pushed platforms to their limits and, at least for the time being, the PS Vita wasn’t getting its developers interested in exploring its hardware.

"I hate to sound like a treading the line spin-meister here, but I've said that traditionally consoles have played to our strengths - and desires to push the utmost limit of resources and memory our tech and engine. That can change with the right handheld, as why I said I won't ever say 'never' but we hadn't encountered that yet."

Naughty Dog currently has a team working on The Last of Us, an upcoming survival game, while the group that delivered Uncharted 3 on the PS3 last year is probably moving onto another project, which won’t be on the PS Vita, judging by Meyer’s statement.
