Add-ons don't allow the studio to fully flesh out its ideas

The developer of the Uncharted series, Naughty Dog, has revealed that there won't be any sort of single-player downloadable content released for the upcoming Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception title, largely because its add-on ideas are really vast and it would be much easier to make full games instead.

DLC is pretty much a given for any sort of big game released these days, with developers always releasing either new maps for multiplayer modes or single-player adventures that add new quests or fill in gaps from the main quest.

With Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, the new installment in Naughty Dog's critically acclaimed adventure franchise, DLC will appear, but the single-player mode won't see any new experiences added to it.

According to Naughty Dog community manager, Arne Meyer, "Dialing back our ambition is difficult," as the studio always comes up with big ideas for downloadable content, which just isn't feasible to develop as standalone DLC, so it always opts to focus on building full pledged games.

"Whenever we sit down and think we should do some single-player DLC, someone pitches something and we realize -- that's a five hour level," said Justin Richmond, game director at the Californian studio, to Eurogamer. "We'd rather build out another game than we would do episodic content. We're so small that we can't afford to have a whole team working on DLC."

Uncharted games have always had an impressive scope and their length has been well above the relatively short average set by most games these days, so downloadable content would certainly add even more hours that might not be experienced by lots of grown up gamers.

Also, seeing as how there are some pretty big production costs associated with making new cut scenes, recording animations and voices, while refining the gameplay, you can see why Naughty Dog and Sony, the publisher of the series, want to focus on just creating full pledged games instead of just add-ons.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is out on November 1, exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
