The next chapter in Sony's exclusive Uncharted saga has just been revealed, by Entertainment Weekly, of all magazines, in the form of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

The new game coming from development studio Naughty Dog saw lots of rumors appear in the last few weeks, and it seems that most of them were true.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception will see its action take place in the desert of the Arabian Peninsula, and will draw inspiration from the famous Lawrence of Arabia.

More specifically, Nathan Drake, the hero of the game franchise, Victor "Sully" Sullivan, his partner, and their other friends will be using the archeology work of Lawrence of Arabia to uncover a legendary lost city in the sands of the Rub' al Khali Desert.

The game, as its title suggests, will deal with deception as its main theme, and focus on Drake's relation with Sully, besides the quest for the lost city.

Uncharted 3 will also feature new mechanics, like "backward climbing" or the chance to fight multiple enemies at the same time.

The multiplayer mode will also be overhauled in order to deliver a more intense experience, and will improve on the work seen in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Seeing as how the action will take place in the desert, Naughty Dog promises that it will really innovate in how sand and sand storms are shown in video games, in order to create an immersive experience.

“When we first came up with the idea of sand, you see everyone’s eyes light up here and go, ‘Yeah, that’s going to be really hard — let’s do it!’” Adds Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells: “We’re a bunch of nerds. We just look for something that will be a technical, artistic challenge, and allowed us to push into an area of the world and history we’ve never tapped into before.”

Naughty Dog didn't commit to an actual release date, but expect Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception to arrive around the end of 2011, just as the first book based on the game series, Uncharted: The Fourth Pillar, will be released.

Expect more details about the game during or right after the Spike TV Video Game Awards, this weekend.
