Yazsoft is beefing up its portfolio of Mac OS X utilities with Unblunder, which offers a “recently deleted” feature that should come in very handy when accidentally deleting one, or more important files.

“Have you ever sent something to the Trash and emptied it only to realize moments later... OOOPS? We all have and it can happen to anyone. Unblunder to the rescue!” states Yazsoft.

Developed by the company behind other popular Mac application, like Speed Download, ShareTool, and Playback, Unblunder uses Mac OS X's UNIX underpinnings to hang on to files after the Trash has been emptied.

Yazsoft coded the app so that it runs quietly in the background and stays out of your way.

“Essentially, Unblunder offers Mac OS X a much needed ‘Recently Deleted’ feature, giving you plenty of time to recover files before they're gone forever,” the company explains.

The developer asks users to note that the application needs to be running before an accident happens (i.e. trashing the wrong file), for optimal file recovery and peace of mind.

Trashed files over 250 MB in size can be immediately recovered after 5 minutes, whereas smaller files can be recovered over the course of a whole day.

However, these are capabilities governed by the app’s default settings. Users can configure the program to hang on to large files for longer, albeit Unblunder will use more system resources.

“You no longer need to bother with expensive, complicated file recovery software,” Yazsoft believes.

The company elaborates, saying that its solution is “much faster and more importantly, helps instantly recover your files exactly as they were when deleted - not how they were an hour ago or a week ago.”

Available as a free 7-day demo, and priced at $10 as a single user license, Unblunder offers the following key benefits, according to Yazsoft:

· Protects against accidental data loss · Runs quietly in the background · Easy access from the menubar · Uses almost no system resources · Instant recovery of recently deleted items · A no-brainer to use · Offer constant peace of mind · Fully customizable

US English is currently the only supported language, with more to come, the developer says.

Unblunder calls for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later, around 22MB of free disk space, and an internet connection, although Yazsoft fails to explain the purpose of the last mentioned requirement.

While only $10 (USD) if purchased individually, Unblunder is included for free with every purchase of ShareTool and/or Playback.
