Actress was going for “effortless Parisienne chic”

Uma Thurman did not have plastic surgery and did not get a “completely different” face through fillers and Botox, despite recent photos that might make you believe that. The only thing Uma changed about herself was to go for a different style of makeup for a change.

The other day, rumors of plastic surgery picked up considerable speed regarding the “Kill Bill” actress, after she stepped out on the red carpet for the premiere of the NBC miniseries “The Slap” looking very different, for lack of a better term.

It was all makeup

You can see a photo of Uma at the event in the gallery below, together with a shot of her from a few weeks back, to better appreciate the difference. While some voices did say that the contrast might also be caused by different styling and makeup, most claimed that she must have opted for it precisely to hide the tell-tale signs of plastic surgery, like her frozen face, the wrinkle-free forehead, and fuller cheeks.

Uma’s makeup artist Troy Surratt tells People Magazine that people jumped the gun on this, because the difference was achieved entirely through makeup. Or better said, through its absence.

Surratt is amazed that this conversation was even started in the first place, when it’s a known fact just how much makeup transforms celebrities both on a day-to-day basis and on special occasions like a red carpet appearance.

After all, it’s not like there aren’t countless sites dedicated only to delivering content about celebrities without makeup, as if celebrities were expected to look flawless and with their faces on at all times.

Still, since the conversation is being had, he might as well say this: Uma looked different that night because she was styled differently, because he wanted to go for the “effortless Parisienne chic,” i.e. that effortless and elegant look that makes you think the woman who’s sporting it only took about 2 minutes to get ready, 1 of which was spent on applying lipstick and the other on combing back her hair.

No mascara, no problem

Of course, the reality of it is that the most effortless-looking look is usually the hardest to achieve.

In Uma’s case, that implied applying foundation, penciling in the eyebrows, some light, barely noticeable eyeshadow, face contouring, lip contouring and lipstick. The one thing that was completely missing was mascara, Surratt says.

“I wanted to give Uma a statement lip balanced by a more feathered brow,” he explains. “Uma and I discussed creating a look that was more editorial with soft natural lashes. As a makeup artist I’ve grown a bit tired of all of the lash-y looks and fake eyelashes that we’ve been seeing on the red carpet for some time now.”

So that’s all there was to it: no plastic surgery, no going overboard with fillers and Botox, no anything of what people thought was the explanation for Uma’s changed appearance. Just makeup and no mascara.
