3D printing technology is still largely outside the reach of most people, and Ultimaker believes that everyone should at least be educated in their use, and maybe even have access to the tech during school.

So it has started the CREATE Education Project, which aims to place 3D printing in schools in The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The motto is “Imagine it->Make it” and follows a pretty egalitarian model.

Basically, Ultimaker is betting on a combination of Ultimaker 2 printers and open-source technology, plus collaboration.

Students would be able to create models and exercise their creativeness using the Ultimaker printers.

A 3D printer kit can be bought for £1000 / $1,658 / €1,214 by interested schools.

“We ordered five Ultimaker 2 printers after an impressive workshop run by the Ultimaker team where students were able to produce their own 3D designs in under two hours,” said Curriculum Leader at Cleethorpes Academy, Marie McDonagh.
