Everyone has an ugly, embarrassing Christmas sweater hidden in the back of their closet for no one to find, but kept just in case Grandma asks about it. Well, this winter's trend is to embrace the weird and wear that ugly clothing item, for charity.

“Be Ugly, Grant Wishes” is the official slogan of the guys who thought transforming hideous holiday apparel may work well as a charity project. “Ugly Christmas Sweater Day” is officially happening on the 3rd Friday of every December and the organizers, “The Ugly Sweater Guys” and the “That's Ugly Society Team” invite everyone to join and support The Children Wish Foundation of Canada.

In an attempt to promote the holiday spirit and help children have their wishes granted for Christmas, the organizers offer the most embarrassing Christmas sweaters and some matching UCSD buttons. All the funds gathered from the sales will go to the Foundation that will bring joy into some children's lives, according to the event's official website.

The holiday sweaters have been incredibly popular this year, with special shops selling ugly Christmas clothing opening in almost every major city. Some are so hideous that not even the Grinch would have thought to picture the holidays like that. They have the evergreens hanging on the sides or Frosty the Snow Man that lights up in the dark, and many other Christmas ornaments that make the flashy clothing items special.

Retail stores, themed parties and races, contests and a lot of other events have introduced the embarrassing apparel as a must, in an attempt to make things funnier. For this kind of sweaters, the phrase “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” actually works perfectly.

Since last year, the ugly Christmas sweaters have been selling constantly in the winter season, and all of this year’s themed events just make the demand bigger. Like the advice given by “That's Ugly Society,” this year is about embracing the ugly, the embarrassing and granting someone else's wishes, either it's a child in need or Grandma that feels proud seeing her grand-kids wearing the hideous, but made with love, sweaters.
