Ubuntu developers are preparing to launch the last OTA update for the current branch of Ubuntu Touch RTM, and they are also working to change the base of the system to 15.04 (Vivid Vervet).

A new OTA update for Ubuntu Touch is in the works and developers are now in the testing phase. This will be the last one for the current RTM branch, which is scheduled to be rebased on Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) very soon. It's a lot of work and it's not an easy thing to do. In fact, it's possible that the developers will have their hands full after the migration will take place.

In any case, Ubuntu for phones is now out into the wild, and it's being tested by regular users. Many of them have provided valuable feedback that was useful, and changes and fixes are being made. On the other hand, it doesn't mean that Canonical will stop improving the operating system with new features, but it will do that in a new branch.

Ubuntu Touch update is not here soon enough

The Ubuntu OS has some minor problems with battery consumption when idle, but most of those issues have been straightened out with this latest update that should go live for Bq users until Friday and for the rest at the beginning of next week, if nothing out of the ordinary happens.

"This is essentially the last OTA planned from the ubuntu-rtm/14.09 series. All the next stable releases are planned to be made from our future vivid RTM branch-off. With the final freeze being already next week, we are also planning on doing the vivid -> RTM switch soon. There is still no definite date as there are still discussions on the right timing, but we expect all the magic to happen somewhere around next week. Also, once QA has some free cycles, we will also promote a new devel image from vivid," noted Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak in this regular update in the mailing list.

Besides the battery improvements, a number of other changes will land as well. We'll keep you apprised with any new info on this important update.
