Searching on the Internet for some Linux based Live CDs, I have discovered a new version of Ubuntu Linux distribution.
It's called Ubuntu Christian Edition.
It looks like it's very new, so I have downloaded it immediately and started to test it. After my PC has rebooted, it started to boot from the CD.
The boot process is the same as in the case of other Ubuntu based systems.
The desktop has a very nice wallpaper, watermarked with "Ubuntu Christian Edition" logo. The applications are exactly what you need for a daily use; a web browser, a word processor, some desktop utilities (like a calendar and a calculator), an audio player and a CD ripper.
Well, I didn't say what it's useful for. Ubuntu Christian Edition is a Live CD Linux distribution geared towards Christians. It is based of course on Ubuntu Linux, which is a complete Linux-based operating system, freely available with both community and professional support.
The developers of Ubuntu Christian Edition say its goal is to bring the power and security of Ubuntu to Christians, and it is suitable for both desktop and server use. Right now, only Intel x86 machines are supported.
Ubuntu Christian Edition includes more than 16,000 pieces of software, but the core desktop installation fits on a single CD. Along the usual applications find in a regular Ubuntu distribution, it contains GnomeSword, a top of the line Bible study program for Linux based on the Sword Project and several modules, installed with GnomeSword, including Bibles, Commentaries, and Dictionaries.
Ubuntu Christian Edition also includes fully integrated web content parental controls powered by Dansguardian, which is a graphical tool to adjust the parental control settings.
Ubuntu Christian Edition can be installed on your hard drive if you fall in love with it, with the help of a 6 step installation wizard.
Let's have a look at some more shots of Ubuntu Christian Edition in action:
