The distro might arrive on October 22, 2015

Announced by Mark Shuttleworth on May 4, 2015, Ubuntu 15.10 (codename Wily Werewolf) will be released later this year on October 22, 2015, according to the preliminary release schedule that was made public today.

The development cycle for Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) remains unchanged once again, as only the opt-in flavors will participate in the traditional Alpha 1, Alpha 2, and Beta 1 releases.

As such, we can report that Alpha 1 for Wily Werewolf's flavors will arrive on June 25, followed by Alpha 2 a month later, on July 30. Then, we will be able to test the Beta 1 release on August 27.

While the Ubuntu 15.10 Final Beta will arrive on September 24, the final version of the Wily Werewolf operating system will see the light of day on October 22, 2015. Now, we all know that these dates can suffer changes without any previous announcement.

Ubuntu 15.10 might be powered by Linux kernel 4.1

Softpedia was the first to report on May 13 that the development process of the upcoming Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating will be based on the Linux kernel 4.0.x packages, and later it will be upgraded to Linux kernel 4.1 once Linus Torvalds announces it.

Those of you who are eager to install the Ubuntu 15.10 distribution on test machines, in order to track the development process of the distribution, can do so right now by downloading the Ubuntu 15.10 Daily Build Live ISO images from Softpedia.

As expected, all the regular Ubuntu flavors will be part of the Wily Werewolf release, including Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu Server, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Core Snappy, and Ubuntu Kylin.
