14 DAY TRIAL // The brand-new display manager, LightDM, has been introduced by Canonical in the current development release of the Ubuntu 11.10 operating system.
With last night's updates, the current development release of the upcoming Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) operating system got a brand new and slick login manager, called LightDM.
LightDM is an operating system's display manager, also known as login manager. Few people know that a display manager is also in charge with the remote logins via XDMCP protocol and manages the X servers.
The new login manager has been introduced because we do need a nice and themeable login screen that matches the Unity interface.

Among other features present in the Ubuntu 11.10 release, we can mention Linux kernel 3.0, multi-arch support, GNOME 3 (without the GNOME-Shell), Deja Dup backup client, a much improved Ubuntu Software Center, and lots more.
