The publisher is going to shift priorities soon enough

Ubisoft Europe boss Alain Corre has emphasized that the large publisher will start focusing on the PS4 and Xbox One over the PS3 and Xbox 360 in the near future but, until then, it will experiment with trying to bring all of its upcoming games onto the last-generation consoles.

Ubisoft has quite a lot of major upcoming games, with some arriving across all platforms, such as Far Cry 4, while others are exclusive to either the last or the current generation of consoles. Assassin's Creed Rogue is set to appear on PS3 and Xbox 360 only, while Assassin's Creed Unity is going to launch just for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

According to Ubisoft's Alain Corre, who talks with GamesIndustry, the time when the company will focus only on the new platforms is going to come sooner rather than later.

"There will come a moment when the majority of our fans and gamers will be next gen. And because the new generation of machines have given us extra possibilities to create better, bigger worlds, there will be a point where it gets too complicated to adapt the gameplay to older technology."

However, until then, Ubisoft's internal teams will try to find ways to adapt the new games to the old consoles, such as how it's doing with The Crew, which is going to appear on PC, PS4, Xbox One, as well as on Xbox 360.

"Actually, it's a question of technology," Corre explains about The Crew's Xbox 360 edition. "Obviously, adapting a massively multiplayer, seamless, huge open world environment on the current gen consoles is difficult. We're trying to get the best out of the current gen machines, and sometimes it works and sometimes not."

Corre also highlights that many people who own a PS4 or an Xbox One didn't have a PS3 or Xbox 360 previously, and so want even more experiences for the new platforms.

"It's funny, because we were discussing this with our friends at Sony and Microsoft here at Gamescom, and the information that we have is that there are a lot of people getting into this new generation that didn't own a console in the previous generation."

"It's very, very encouraging to see that. The games now are more social and more multiplayer [focused], so people can see their friends having fun with it. That's something completely new. That social aspect is the real revolution in this generation."

Ubisoft is set to debut quite a lot of ambitious titles in the future, after already deploying plenty of cross-generation games, like Watch Dogs or Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag in the last year.
