For the time being, it's uncertain whether the project is a brand new IP or a sequel to an already existing one

Ubisoft teases us once more, with a yet unannounced new AAA video game that, strangely, will not be unveiled at E3.

The maker of Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and a host of other popular video game franchises is apparently looking to surprise us once more. The announcement will come sometime this fall, which is puzzling, since E3 is the biggest venue for such news.

The information comes from the company's latest financial report, and while we don't know what exactly Ubisoft has in store, we might know what it doesn't.

The company intends to release the video game during the January to March 2016 window, and it's pretty clear that it will not be Rainbow Six: Siege, Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, The Division, or Just Dance.

During an earnings call, Ubisoft Chief Executive Officer Yves Guillemot declined to comment on whether the unannounced game would be a brand new IP or a sequel to one of the company's existing ones.

Let the speculation begin

It might be the sequel to Watch Dogs, since the game proved to be pretty successful, in spite of all the drama associated with its visual downgrade and performance issues. The company already mentioned that it was planning to return to the franchise, but it would be kind of early for that.

Another possibility would be a return to the Splinter Cell franchise, although with Tom Clancy's The Division and Tom Clancy's Rainbox Six: Siege slated for release, it's difficult to tell whether the company is willing to release yet another Tom Clancy game within the same timeframe.

Yet another possibility, and one that would surely sit well with the fans, would be a reboot of the Prince of Persia franchise, which was put on pause after the release of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, back in 2010.

The company has also announced that it intends to release all of its upcoming video games on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as it moves further away from the last generation of home consoles. Just Dance will be the only title to hit last gen.
