The Nintendo Wii U home console is set to launch before the end of the year and one of the most important publishers in the industry, Ubisoft, is ready to take advantage of whatever digital strategy plans to implement for the device, using the newly acquired experience of the PlayStation Vita as a guide.

Chris Early, the vice president of digital strategy at Ubisoft, told Eurogamer that, “We’ll absolutely take advantage of whatever the policies will let us do with the platform from the standpoint of providing digital content. Nintendo has not announced a lot of their digital programs at this point of time.”

He added, “Our key is, as you see from us from a content perspective in supporting the platform, is we’re going to be there like we were with the Vita, and support the policy side of it as well.

“With the Vita all of our games are available digitally, and they’re even optimized from that standpoint because that was a policy in place we were able to design to.”

The launch of the PlayStation Vita has been a test for the digital strategies of most publishers because the device was one of the first to allow games to be delivered to players both via classic retail packages and via the PlayStation Network.

Some rumors about the next home consoles from both Sony and Microsoft have suggested that the companies will drop support for disk drives and will seek to deliver all their content via digital distribution means.

Early says that Ubisoft has no clear information on what the two hardware developers are creating, but states that his own company is ready to use whatever infrastructure is provided.

The Nintendo Wii U was unveiled at last year’s E3 trade event, with the company focusing on the touch-enabled controller for the new console.

Another reveal is expected in June, with more information on the actual hardware and the launch video game line-up.
