Video game publisher Ubisoft seems to be planning to launch yet another free-to-play video game, called Castle Empire, which will have a medieval theme and will apparently fill another niche in the line up of the publisher.

It seems that Castle Empire will be played entirely in a browser and will not require gamers to download any content to their computer and that the main areas of the game will be open to everyone who is interested with some cosmetic and some gameplay-linked enhancements, available for those who are interested in paying real-world money.

Castle Empire, as the name suggests, is a strategy game and players will be asked to gather and then manage the allocation of resources, will fight enemies, develop their armies and conquer new areas.

It seems that the experience will also have a social aspect and will allow players to communicate, create alliances and work together.

The developer of Castle Empire is Blue Byte, a studio set in Germany that is also working on the Settlers franchise and on the Anno series.

This might mean that the game is more focused on creating an efficient way of gathering resources and creating buildings and products rather on the combat.

It's not clear when Ubisoft plans to launch Castle Empire, but players can leave their details in order to get into the closed beta that the publisher plans to launch.

Ubisoft already has a strategy-oriented free-to-play game in Might & Magic: Heroes Kingdoms, which is based on the well-known turn-based strategy series, so it needs to deliver something different in Castle Empire in order to attract potential gamers.

Ubisoft is also preparing two other free-to-play games, one based on racing in Trackmania Nations Forever and one built around the Ghost Recon series, coming both to consoles and to the PC.
