At the CTIA 2006, UTStarcom have unveiled the Casio Gzone clamshell phone, presented as the "Type-V", and inspired from the Casio line of watches named G-Shock. It has shock resistance, a digital compass for the ever lost people and waterproofing that works pretty well when you accidentally drop your phone into, let's say, a one meter deep pool of water, and forget about it for half an hour. Pretty cool, if you are the type of person that always carries the phone everywhere, be it on the top of the mountain or in the backyard pool.

The phone will have a 2.2 inch 65 k colors TFT main display, a 1.3 inch Casio-like external display, a loud speakerphone and a 2 megapixel camera. The Gzone will be delivered in green, red and black colors, on the US market through the Verizon carrier and will be named the Casio Hitachi NX9200. The handset's T-Mobile is supposed to support EV-DO and will also operate on CDMA networks.

The date of release is still unknown, and the manufacturer hasn't said anything about the price or an eventual GSM compatibility either.
