UTStarcom has recently released two new clamshells during CTIA, the CDM7026 and CDM7076 camera phone, both of them being entry-level devices. Having said that, their feature set is a basic one, with both handsets coming equipped with voice activated dialing, speakerphone, polyphonic ringtones, a 500-entry phone book, text messaging with T9, pre-loaded games and bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish).

According to UTStarcom, the two handsets were designed for customers that want an easy-to-use, reliable, affordable phone with a bit of style. Both the CDM7026 and CDM7076 are compact, lightweight phones, weighing 3.1 ounces and measuring 3.7 x 1.9 x 0.7 inches. They also include 32MB Flash and 8MB RAM, GPSOne capabilities due to the equipped MSM6050 chipset, 1.8 inch 65k color screens and support for BMP, GIF, JPEG and PNG image formats.

Compared to its sibling, the CDM7076 also packs a VGA CMOS camera enabling the user to take snapshots when needed. Ringtone formats supported include QCELP, EVRC, MIDI and MP3. Bringing all the functionality and capabilities a basic user would require from a phone, UTStarcom has managed to come up with a couple of devices that should be fairly appreciated by consumers. So far, the manufacturer hasn't provided any information regarding the price or availability of the two phones.

"UTStarcom Personal Communications is listening to its carrier customers and creating handsets that offer practical, reliable and affordable wireless options that also feature a bit of flair," said Philip Christopher, president of UTStarcom Personal Communications. "The CDM7026 AND CDM7076 phones marry consumer-friendly functionality with attractive design in entry-level devices that we believe will be very popular."
