The United States Geological Survey (USGS) may receive a budget of $1.1 billion (€840 million) for Fiscal Year 2013. The President's 2013 budget request is about $34.5 million above 2012 levels, an increase that reflects the high performances that the federal agency displayed this year.

Studies such as the ones conducted by USGS investigators will become increasingly popular in coming years, as dwindling resources and territory will see governments and corporations battle over geologic, hydrologic, and topographic information of the highest quality.

The USGS remains dedicated to providing the best possible data to the federal government, and to maximizing the scientific return for every taxpayer dollar invested in the organization. The agency is one of the most cost-effective in the entire country.

“Fundamental, multidisciplinary USGS science capabilities are necessary to address the nation’s increasingly connected societal and economic challenges,” USGS Director Marcia McNutt comments.
