New stuff for your wallet

Many products pretend lately that they are credit card sized. But this name is based only on the fact that these products are relatively compact. That's why the terms "resemble" or "look alike" a credit card shouldn't be used, taking into consideration that a credit card is much more thinner than any device on the market right now.

But the company Walletex wants to prove us wrong, launching on the market WalletFlash, an USB drive that really has the size of a credit card (see photo). WalletFlash USB 1.1 is the thinnest USB drive on the market and its storing capacities vary from 128 MB to 2 GB.

We can say that it was about time that a company should think at such a form factor for an USB drive because the majority of this kind of devices use only rectangular form factor, the only new thing about them being their smaller sizes.

WalletFlash is available in four versions, each having different storing capacities. Therefore we will be able to find models of 128 Mb, 256 Mb, 512 MB and a 2 GB model. For the 128 Mb model we must pay 29 USD, for the 256 Mb one - 29 USD and for the 512 model - 89 USD. The price for the 2 GB model was not yet announced by Walletex.

If we take a look on the Internet we will find similar products though. For example, we will find that, during 2006, StorCard will launch plastic cards that will be able to store from 100 MB to 5 GB of data. Also, the company claims that it will launch similar cards but with a built in hard disk. Also, LaCie has a seamless solution, called Carte Orange that can store 8 GB of data and comes in a metallic housing.
