At the beginning of last month, Intel was announcing we will soon find out the specifications of the wireless USB 1.0. standard, and the Wireless USB Promoter Group which will authorize the specifications of the format is composed of: Ager, HP, Microsoft, NEC, Philips Semiconductors, Samsung, and Intel.

The trend of adopting the Wireless technology is more and more obvious in all areas of technology, and the fast USB connection could not have missed this opportunity. The advantages of such a solution are clear to everyone, o high speed "hot-plug" type connection compatible with a large number of devices is the answer to a lot of mobility problems.

Unlike other standards, the USB was shown great support from all producers, and according to the estimations made by In-Stat/MDR, last year, approximately 705.7 million devices were fitted with USB ports. Their number will grow fast, and by 2009 it is appraised that 2.1 billion devices will have a USB port.

However, establishing a wireless USB connection poses some supplementary problems, and the verification of the user's identity will have to go through a series of checks between the computer and the peripheral. After the devices detect each other, they have to request and accept unique identifiers. Once the identification rules are defined, the devices will establish a private encrypted connection. The standard is based on the 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard protocol which ensures the secure communication between a computer and another device.

If the specifications of 1.0 version are approved by May 15, then equipments with such an interface could appear at the end of 2005.
