It’s unknown if the theft was random or targeted

A USB drive containing the floor plans of the Elysee Palace – the residence of France’s president – has been stolen from the vehicle of a contractor while it was parked outside the Gare de Lyon train station in Paris.

It’s uncertain at this time if this was a targeted attack or if the thief’s target was random, The Telegraph reports.

The files – which included the layouts of other businesses as well - were stored on the drive without being encrypted, but according to officials, the documents relating to the presidential palace were not actually classified.

In reality, such blueprints could be highly valuable to anyone that’s up to no good. Even more worryingly, even if the thief didn’t know what he was stealing, now that the story became public and the loot’s potential value is known, he may try to sell them to the highest bidder.
