Toshiba has quite a lot of experience in the field of portable computing systems, but now, the company has decided to use that expertise in order to develop a brand new type of portable PC monitor, powered solely via USB.

Officially known as the 14-inch USB-powered Mobile LCD Monitor, the new display solution from Toshiba has been developed specifically to meet the needs of notebook users who simply feel the need to add some extra desktop space for their multiple applications.

And, according to Toshiba, they really won't feel the difference between this external LCD monitor and their Toshiba notebook's screen, since the two are actually almost identical, as far as their technical specifications are concerned.

So, the new widescreen mobile accessory offers a 1366 x 768 pixels resolution, and, since it's less than one inch thick and weighs just around 2.8 pounds, carrying it around shouldn't be much of a problem.

And since we're on the topic of portability, it's also interesting to mention that the Mobile Monitor includes a protective black vinyl carrying case, capable of easily folding into an adjustable stand.

Another very important feature this monitor has to offer is the fact that both power and video are available through a single USB connection (using DisplayLink technology), meaning that users won't have to carry around a cumbersome power brick and/or video cable.

“The Mobile Monitor allows traveling businesspeople and students to conduct on-the-spot presentations and share content without the need for a bulky projector or having to crowd around a laptop screen,” said Paul Collas, director of Accessory Marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Life Products and Services.

The Mobile Monitor from Toshiba is available as we speak starting at $199.99 MSRP, which, to be perfectly honest, is not even that high a price, given this thing's features and specs.
