Since not all Windows PCs and Apple Mac systems have the latest local area networking and Internet hardware, Sonnet decided to do something about it.

And since it can't just snap its fingers and transfigure every existing notebook, Ultrabook, desktop, and Apple Mac/Macbook into something with Gigabit Ethernet, it launched an adapter instead.

That's how the Presto Gigabit USB 3.0, a USB 3.0-to-Gigabit Ethernet adapter, came to be.

Since USB 3.0 has a top transfer speed of 5 Gbps, the Presto Gigabit USB 3.0 adapter easily allows 1000/100/10BaseT auto negotiation and full/half duplex communication.

Backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 is available as well. It won't give the same speed as USB 3.0, but it will still allow older systems to connect to the web (100 MB/s).
