The USB Implementers Forum has certified quite a few chips

A few years ago, there weren't many USB 3.0 hub controllers that system and consumer electronics makers were willing to buy.

Oh, there were definitely companies offering them, but the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) hadn't certified most of them.

Now, though, Texas Instruments (TI) and VIA Labs, ASMedia Technology, Genesys Logic, Realtek Semiconductor, Renesas Electronics, and Standard Microsystems Corporation (SMSC) all have certification.

Good thing too, because they all expect USB 3.0 hub sales to boom like never before.

Though some may not know it, USB 3.0 product sales haven't been massive, despite heavy media coverage.

USB 3.0 host and device controllers actually sold better, but hubs used in standalone docking stations and PCs are only now about to get their turn.

The wave of new PCs expected to show up in the third quarter of the year (2013), based on Intel Haswell CPUs and AMD Kabini APUs, will play a big part.
