The US Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) and the Obama Administration released a new decadal plan on April 27, a strategic plan that identifies priorities in investigations related to climate change, global warming, and the evolution of the environment.

The 10-year plan will be implemented by the USGCRP and 13 other federal agencies and departments, and features a detailed review edited by the National Research Council. The report was compiled by more than 100 scientists.

“High-quality and well-coordinated research is essential if we are to better understand and predict future changes, develop strategies to minimize our vulnerabilities, and adapt to changes that can’t be avoided,” USGCRP Executive Director Tom Armstrong says.

The four main goals for 2012-2021 are conducting advanced science, making informed decisions, conducting sustained assessments, and communicating results to the public, for educational purposes.
