According to the Sophos “Dirty Dozen” spam report for the second quarter of 2013, the United States remains the number one spam-relaying country. As other experts have noted, Belarus has made a significant jump, currently occupying the second position.

The top 12 of spam-relaying countries (by volume) is completed by China, Ukraine, Taiwan, India, Spain, Kazakhstan, Argentina, Italy, Russia and Germany.

It’s worth mentioning that Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Argentina are newcomers.

The chart is a bit different when it comes to spam-relaying countries by population. Belarus is the first, followed by Kazakhstan, Uruguay, Taiwan, Ukraine, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Chile, Argentina, Spain and Singapore.

Take note that these are countries that simply relay spam messages sent by cybercriminals and fraudsters. They’re not necessarily the country of origin.
