In a letter they’ve sent to Senate, former US intelligence and military officials highlight the necessity the country has for a cybersecurity bill that focuses on the protection of critical infrastructure.

According to Nextgov, the ones who signed the letter, including former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, NSA, the CIA Director Michael Hayden, and former Deputy Secretary of Defense William Lynn III, urge Senate to adopt a legislation this year as it is critical for the protection of the national and economic security.

While the former heads don’t have a particular bill in mind, they do feel however that Homeland Security Chairman Joe Lieberman’s legislation “has received the most traction.”

This particular law would allow the US government to oversee some of the critical infrastructure currently operated by organizations from the private sector.
