After his Freedom of Information Act requests for the Secret Service documents related to the late activist Aaron Swartz were denied by the agency, Kevin Poulsen – who worked with Swartz on a project – filed a lawsuit against the US Department of Homeland Security.

The Secret Service refused Poulsen’s request, arguing that the documents he wanted contained sensitive law enforcement records that were part of an ongoing proceeding.

Now, according to Poulsen, US District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly has ordered the government to start releasing the thousands of pages it has on Swartz.

In addition, the US must also hand over all the responsive documents it produces from now on.

The judge has given the government until August 5 to come up with a timetable for the release of all the responsive documents.

Poulsen says he will publish them once he gets them.
