US Air Force has made some progress in the cybersecurity sector, but they still have a lot of work cut out for them

Present at the Cyber 1.2 conference, Lt. Gen. Michael Basla, vice commander of Air Force Space Command, revealed that despite budget and personnel cuts, the Air Force has made “measurable progress in defensive and offensive capabilities.”

Without giving too many details, Basla named a few cyberattack programs, including the “deployable cyber-attack system” and the “network attack system,” National Defense reports.

While cyber offensive operations still have a long way to go, the defense of the military’s networks is a top priority.

Similar to regular warfare, the US now has the right to retaliate when hit by cyberattacks. However, the problem is that the country doesn’t yet possess the capabilities to easily and precisely determine the identity of an attacker.

An active measure taken by the Air Force in the cybersecurity sector refers to the reduction of gateways that can be utilized by cyber-spies from 100 to 16.
