Ubuntu is heading to smartphones, that’s no mystery to anyone, yet it might take a while before we could see actual devices built specifically for it.

For the time being, the platform has been showcased only in existing Android hardware, such as Galaxy Nexus and other similar devices, and has yet to find a house of its own.

Before such a phone becomes official, however, users can have a look at the concept device coming from Deviantart member Alessio94x to start dreaming of what a smartphone running Ubuntu might look like.

Dubbed UPhone, the concept smartphone features a simple and elegant design, although it is merely the product of a user’s imagination.

Of course, given the fact that Ubuntu for phones and Android share a core Linux technology, the former should easily fit on any handset currently running under Google’s platform.

Designed in line with this idea, the UPhone Ubuntu smartphone concept packs a 4.65-inch touchscreen display, which could easily be capable of a 720p resolution.

Furthermore, the device, which sports a white body, most probably made of polycarbonate, concept-phone notes, could very well pack an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back.

Similarly, we might imagine it with hardware specs in line with today’s top Android devices, including multi-core processors, 1GB or 2GB of RAM, and the like.

The designer of the concept also appears to have considered that, given that it sports a user interface different from that of Android, Ubuntu does not require buttons on the smartphone.

The handset also sports a squared design, just as Samsung’s upcoming flagship Galaxy S IV smartphone was recently said to feature.

However, just as mentioned above, the UPhone Ubuntu smartphone that can be admired in the photos attached to this article is nothing more than a simple concept device, and it might never arrive on the market as an actual smartphone.
