Palm Pre 2, the latest webOS-based smartphone brought to the market during the ongoing year, will land in the UK this Monday, but it won't benefit from carrier support when made available.

Computer maker HP, the company that bought Palm earlier this year, announced officially a few days ago that it would have the new device on sale in the UK unlocked and SIM-free.

While that might seem like great news for end-users, as they would be able to connect to any supported network in the country after purchasing the device, it appears that things are a little bit different.

UK carriers do not plan to range the new device, thus determining HP to sell it unlocked in the country.

Whether this was the main reason for the move, it remains to be seen, but the bottom line is that UK carriers confirmed that they do not have plans to add the new smartphone to their offerings.

Previously, Palm's webOS smartphones were available in the UK via O2, and it appears that even this wireless carrier has no plans to make the new handset available for purchase on its airwaves.

“The Palm Pre Two will not be available on O2. We offer a range of the best handsets through our product portfolio and regularly review this to ensure it continues to meet the demands of our customers,” the company said, a recent article on Pocket-lint reads.

When contacted on the matter, other UK wireless carriers also unveiled the fact that they do not plan to make the Palm Pre 2 available for purchase on their airwaves.

However, while other carriers said they do not plan to range the new device at the moment, O2 said it loud and clear that they won’t be selling the Palm Pre 2.

“We’re still fans of webOS - the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus are available from us today - but won’t be taking the Palm Pre Two,” the wireless carrier reportedly stated.
